Tungaloy to expand TungForce-Rec line for milling difficult-to-machine materials


Iwaki, January 2018 – Tungaloy will expand TungForce-Rec, a family of successful shoulder milling cutters, to include new toolholders and an insert grade to further boost productivity in milling difficult-to-machine materials.

TungForce-Rec features V-bottom inserts for high insert stability during heavy shoulder milling, while ensuring maximum tool performance in not only square shoulder milling and grooving operations but also profile milling.

A shoulder milling cutter is normally a first choice tool for manufacturers that are face milling close to vertical faces or fixture sections; therefore, they often expect it to have high quality surface finishing capability. TungForce-Rec is designed for accurate indexing and secure insert retention that ensure stable surface finish quality. To respond to these market demands, Tungaloy is adding a tool diameter range of ø18 mm – ø40 mm and ø0.75” – ø1.0” with reduced neck shanks to the series.

A growing market focus on higher material performance and functionality is making metal machining even more challenging. A premature, catastrophic tool failure is a typical failure mode in machining difficult-to-cut exotic metals due to heat generated during machining. Tungaloy’s AH130 grade features tough, submicron-grain carbide substrate and oxidation-resistant PVD coating. This enhances AH130’s capability to handle high heat in the cutting zone and to effectively prevent chipping and wear for high machining stability and predictability in machining difficult materials.
